Transform Your Horse Business | Ethical Training, Marketing Secrets, & Industry Breakthroughs!

August 15, 20246 min read

What is the Horse First Revolution? We’re glad you asked. The Horse First Revolution is a podcast from the creators of HorseBizAutomated designed to empower heart centered professionals, like you, to build profitable, ethical businesses.

The demand for ethical horse treatment has never been greater, and the time is ripe for horse first professionals to lead this movement. In a world where profit often tramples compassion, committed horse first pros must take the reins. This podcast equips you with the skills, confidence, and courage to make a greater impact and income doing what you love most.

We happen to be launching The Horse First Revolution podcast (as well as several other of our own personal marketing efforts) at the same time as the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. This event and numerous high profile events leading up to it have brought to light what the horse industry has kept in the closet for so long: a state of disarray, neglect, and abuse. This abuse exists on a spectrum from major and purposeful (using whips and drawing blood) to passive and subconscious (Does the horse consent to working with us? Is the horse in a state of learned helplessness when it works with us?).

As these concerns have been made public, non-members of the horse community are engaging in discourse about the obvious abuses. Horse people, however, are diving into deeper conversations. By and large, the non-horse population is not aware of and does not understand the need for heart-led, ethical horse-first businesses. Now is the time to be outspoken about the services you provide and the education that is available to the public.

As a horse-pro yourself, why should you care about the non-horse public? Think of them as not-YET-horse-people who influence their partners or children (who are or may become horse people). There’s still an open discourse at this time. When we say we have horses at home, this is met with empathy and curiosity. If, however, the culture of abuse and neglect becomes more widespread, these conversations will cease to exist and rather be met with similar taboo and stigma to that surrounding, for example, dog fights and other industries of corruption.

How do we speak up? It’s scary to raise your voice and stand out from the crowd, but there are horse owners out there who need to know you exist.

The trainer-amateur relationship can often be a complex entanglement and even turn toxic or dangerous. We cannot always simply blame horse riders and amateurs for engaging in neglectful or abusive practices. They’re being guided by a person they see as the authority, that they chose to trust. The culture that fosters this behavior is largely systemic. Without access to ethical, science and welfare-based practitioners, horse owners often may not know of an alternative or see any choice but maintaining the status quo. At best this leads them to engage in coercive treatment and behaviors, but at worst… leads to harm and abuse.

The financial cost of having and caring for horses is also consistently on the rise. Hay is more expensive. Supplies are more expensive. Boarding is more expensive. When the bills are piling up and care is non-negotiable, many feel they are left with no choice but to quit. Owners will sell their horses (or worse) to disengage from the equine industry altogether.

Ultimately, they feel like they’re left with two choices:

- Maintain the status quo

- Leave the industry due to the cost of doing ethical business

Professionals want to do better, but they’re afraid that if they slow down - if they take the time that is actually required to do the right thing and treat horses ethically - they’re going to lose money. Their ability to survive in the industry is jeopardized. Thus, this toxic interaction leads to our inability to have safe conversations. Change begins on the inside. We need to offer each other compassion rather than judgment in order to foster substantive change.

So, what do we do? We offer an alternative. As a heart-led horse-first business, the industry is DESPERATE for what you have to offer. It’s time to empower the heart-centered professional from the inside to the outside.

If you’re not standing firm in your principles and strengthening your marketing to let people know about your business, you’re not contributing to the solution. It’s within your power and responsibility to give people access to the vital service you provide. Offer more clinics. Offer more online trainings. Your website can shine. Your social media can shine.
